Gunsan Time Travel Festival

The Gunsan Time Travel Festival is Gunsan's signature festival, set against the backdrop of modern-era Gunsan — a city that carries the history of the Japanese colonial period, the resistance of its people, and the harsh realities of daily life at the time. It lets visitors travel between Gunsan's past, present, and future, experiencing the stories and culture of different eras firsthand. This year the festival puts citizens and tourists at the center of the action with an even richer lineup of participatory programs. These include a citizen-led "Global Modern Flash Mob," a re-enactment of the March 5th independence cheers called "We Are All March 5th Manse," and the "Gunsan Port Night Pier Contest," where visitors can show off their talent and energy. There's also easy, fun, hands-on content exploring Gunsan's modern history and independence movement, such as "Operation 1919 Taegukgi Raising," "Duel! Defend the Declaration of Independence," and "Becoming an Independence Fighter." Around the festival grounds, visitors can take on mission-and-experience programs like "The Time Traveler's Secret Passport," "Gathering Time," and "Catch It! Payphone Mission," alongside modern costume experiences, citizen-planned programs, a flea market, food stalls, and performances. With a mix of nostalgia for different generations and fresh new fun, the festival is designed so that people of all ages can naturally encounter Gunsan's history and culture while enjoying their own unique time-travel experience.
