The Muju Firefly Festival is Korea's leading environmental festival, centered on fireflies—a natural monument—and the region's pristine natural surroundings. It takes place every year in late August to early September throughout Muju County. Visitors can watch the mysterious glow of fireflies in unspoiled nature, a special experience that highlights how precious nature is and why protecting ecosystems matters. During the festival, the signature program 'Firefly Mystery Exploration' runs alongside various ecological and environmental activities, traditional culture events, performances, and nighttime scenery. The Firefly Mystery Exploration in particular is a program unique to Muju, taking visitors directly to firefly habitats to see their natural light up close, creating unforgettable memories. The Muju Firefly Festival has established itself as a festival that shares the value of humans and nature coexisting while spreading awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.
