Mokpo Hanggu Festival

Mokpo opened its port in 1897 and once thrived as one of Korea's three major ports and six major cities, driving the local economy as a hub for trade and logistics. Today it remains a key city on the southwestern coast. The Mokpo Harbor Festival is the only festival in the country that recreates the traditional "pasi" fish market culture of Mokpo's harbor, held on Samhakdo Island, a place rich with local legends, highlighting its historical value. This fall festival also features seasonal seafood auctions in the pasi style, along with the chance to grill and cook the seafood you've won right on the spot, capturing the full romance of Mokpo's bountiful harbor.
