Goesan Chili Pepper Festival
괴산고추축제
About
The Goesan Red Pepper Festival is a signature farm-produce festival held in Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, usually from late August to early September, blending agriculture, tourism, and culture around the region's prized Goesan clean peppers. Its main goal is to showcase the quality of Goesan's organically grown peppers, cultivated in pristine natural surroundings, while boosting farmers' income and the local economy through direct-sale markets and farm-product sales. The festival draws huge crowds every year with programs for all ages, including special hands-on activities like "Find the Golden Pepper" and "Pepper Nanta," pepper bibimbap tastings, a spicy food eating contest, traditional games, and live performances. A world pepper exhibition and pepper competition also introduce visitors to a wide range of domestic and international pepper varieties, adding an educational, expert touch to the event. Recognized as a Promising Cultural Tourism Festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and as a signature festival of Chungcheongbuk-do, it's a flagship local event that showcases Goesan's nature, agriculture, and culture all at once.
