Waegwan Holi Festival

About

This festival in Waegwan, Chilgok County, North Gyeongsang Province, connects the area's rich Catholic heritage with tourism. Built around the idea of spending a 'Holiday' in a 'Holy' place, it's centered on Waegwan Abbey, a site steeped in Catholic history and spirit. By day, visitors can enjoy scenic light displays; by night, the abbey transforms into a 'Cathedral of Light' and a dreamlike forest. There's a lineup of performances too, including a talk concert with the 'MZ priest' Fr. Lee Chang-min, a Holy Concert featuring singers Lena Park and Ahn Ye-eun, busking performances, Gregorian chant, and pipe organ recitals. Waegwan Abbey, with its medieval European atmosphere, also offers various photo zones (including a portrait studio and a monk's robe photo booth) and unique experiences such as a special Mass at the Sky Cathedral led by the abbot, monastery tours with the monks, and a retreat experience.
